Tripleseat and Kaliquid, row by row
Tripleseat is a good product for the market it was built for. The rows below test it against an Indian wedding hall, not against its own customers. "Not documented" means we read its pages and did not find an answer.
| Core Operational Requirement | Kaliquid Venue OS | Tripleseat |
|---|---|---|
| Where it is sold | India: halls, lawns, banquets, caterers | US first; its announcements add the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. India did not appear in what we found |
| Published price | Quoted in INR; get it in writing | Not published: "depends on volume, locations, add-ons, and use case". Third-party listings for one venue range from about USD 149 to 500+ a month |
| Proposals, contracts and BEOs | Quote, booking, advance receipts and kitchen orders in one flow | A mature strength. Proposals, contracts, BEOs and payments sit in one platform |
| Floor plans | Stage and seating planner tool; lighter than a full layout package | 2D and 3D layouts, sold as a package. Ahead here |
| Guest self-serve booking online | Enquiry capture and a sales pipeline; check the demo for self-booking | Direct Book add-on, "self-serve booking, 24/7" |
| Morning and evening slots on one hall | Date locking per slot | Multi-day and room-block features for hotels; two-slot days not documented |
| Hall at 18%, food at 5%, CGST/SGST or IGST | SAC-wise lines chosen by place of supply | Not documented for India |
| Advances by UPI, cash and cheque | UPI QR, cash and cheque recorded with WhatsApp receipts | Payments run through PartyPay, Stripe, Fiserv and Square; UPI not mentioned |
| Indian menus, per-plate costing, grocery sizing | Per-plate costing, kitchen orders, PAX-to-kg grocery sizing | Kitchen copies of the BEO; Indian grocery sizing not documented |
| Tally export | Tally Prime export | Not mentioned in what we found |
Tripleseat is a trademark of Tripleseat. Facts from tripleseat.com pricing, packages and support pages, and its published expansion notes (September 2026). Third-party price listings vary and are not Tripleseat quotes. Rupee figures use about Rs 96 per USD (24 September 2026).
Four places an Indian wedding breaks a US venue workflow
None of these are flaws in Tripleseat. They are differences in how the business is run.
The guarantee changes on the day
A family guarantees 400 plates and 468 arrive. The BEO has to absorb the change without a fresh contract.
Three payment modes on one booking
UPI, cash and cheque land against the same balance, and each needs its own receipt.
One BEO, five departments
Kitchen, decor, sound, stewards and security each need their own copy, with dietary and curfew notes.
Tax lines the accountant can file
Hall rent and food carry different rates, and the place of supply decides CGST/SGST or IGST.
What Tripleseat does well, and what an Indian BEO must add
Give Tripleseat its due. It sells a package it describes as the full event platform: capture the enquiry, book, plan, take payment and grow. Around that core it offers add-ons for Direct Book, Floor Plans, Venue Marketplace, Insights and Tickets, and a Hotels version with property system integration, room blocks and multi-day events (tripleseat.com, September 2026). The banquet event order, or BEO, is where it shines. Proposal, contract and BEO live together, so the kitchen and the sales manager read the same sheet. That discipline is worth copying whatever software you choose.
Availability is the first practical question. Tripleseat's own announcements name the UK, Ireland, Canada, Australia and New Zealand as recent expansion markets, and its payments product is listed for the UK, Canada, Australia and parts of Europe (Tripleseat, 2025). We could not find India in any of those lists. That does not prove you cannot buy it, but it does mean support hours, currency handling and tax settings were not designed with a Pune banquet in mind. Ask sales in writing whether they support INR, GST and an Indian bank settlement before you spend a minute on a trial.
Payments are the next snag. Tripleseat lists PartyPay, Stripe, Fiserv and Square as its online payment options, and some of those are limited to particular countries. An Indian wedding is rarely a card payment. A Rs 5,19,500 booking often arrives as Rs 1,00,000 by UPI at signing, Rs 50,000 in cash at the mandap fitting, a Rs 75,000 cheque a month out, and the balance by NEFT two days before. The tool has to record all four against one booking, print a receipt for each, and adjust the advance on the final invoice. Put that exact scenario to any vendor and watch how long the demo takes.
Price talk online is a mess, so treat it carefully. Tripleseat does not publish a price. Listings and reviews for a single venue mention anything from about USD 149 a month to USD 3,600 to 6,000 a year, and a competitor's 2021 blog post quoted USD 300 to 500 a month plus a USD 500 setup fee. At Rs 96 to the dollar those work out to roughly Rs 14,300 a month at the low end and Rs 48,000 a month at the high end, or Rs 3.5 to 5.8 lakh a year for the yearly figures. Add-ons such as Floor Plans and Direct Book are priced separately. You will not know your number until you sit through a demo, and the answer depends on volume and add-ons.
Now the BEO itself. A US private-dining BEO lists a headcount, a menu, a room setup and a total. An Indian wedding BEO needs more. It needs the shift (morning or evening), a guaranteed guest count that is billed even if fewer come, and an extras rule for the ones who do. Picture 468 guests against a guarantee of 400 at Rs 900 a plate: 68 extra plates cost Rs 61,200 plus Rs 3,060 in GST at 5%. It also needs Jain and no-onion-garlic counts for the kitchen, the baraat time, the music curfew, the generator plan, and the split between hall rent at 18% and food at 5%. The Word file on this page is that sheet, ready to print.
So who should pick Tripleseat? A restaurant group, hotel or venue in the US, UK, Canada, Australia or New Zealand that wants proposals, BEOs and payments in one place should look at it seriously. An Indian hotel brand that already runs a global standard may want it too. A single hall, lawn or caterer in India that lives on UPI, cash and WhatsApp, files GST returns with separate hall and food rates, and hands the accountant a Tally file will spend more time bending the tool than using it. Use the trial script on the Planning Pod comparison page to test any vendor on the same 16 points.
